The HAHS presented a one-act play called “Let’s Have Harmony” over the 2025 4th of July weekend.

October 30, 2025 by Harmony Area Historical Society

The “Let’s have Harmony” production over the 4th of July weekend
was a resounding success!

This production is a short, one-act play. It is collaboration between the Harmony Area Historical Society, Jackie Whitacre, (the English and Theater teacher at Fillmore Central High School) and Harmony community members.

The play was greatly appreciated by enthusiastic audiences of over 100 in attendance on Friday and nearly 100 on Saturday, raising nearly $2000 for the McMichael Elevator Restoration project. The actors did an amazing job!! The venue was just perfect. It was a delightful addition to Harmony’s 4th of July celebrations.

A huge shout-out to all who made this possible.

  • Author of the play, Carol Rhodes (along with the late Marilyn Trouten)
  • Director, Jackie Whitacre for taking on this project and pulling it all together right at the end of a busy school year.
  • The volunteer cast and crew members who brought this vision to life.
  • Miles Petrie and Lisa Miller for the use of the Old Legion Hall for rehearsals and performances.
  • JEM Theatre and Kingsley Mercantile for complimentary popcorn at the performances.
  • Bill and Roxanne Johnson for their contribution of the farm set for the silent auction.
  • The City of Harmony Arts Board for their generous monetary contribution toward this production.
  • The City of Harmony for the use of the Community Center for early rehearsals.
  • Fillmore Central Drama Department for the use of their costumes.
  • Tim Little for his guitar playing and the sing-along accompaniment.
  • Audience Members for joining us and giving generously toward the McMichael Elevator Restoration Project.

Thank you.

Follow the Call of Fall: Exploring Harmony, MN

September 7, 2025 by Harmony Area Chamber

Follow the Call of Fall: Exploring Harmony, MN

When the air turns crisp and the landscape shifts to shades of russet and gold across the oak savannah prairie, there’s no better place to explore than Harmony, Minnesota. Nestled in the scenic Driftless Region of Southeast Minnesota, Harmony is surrounded by rolling limestone bluffs, hidden valleys, and rare prairies untouched by glaciers—making it a uniquely beautiful backdrop for autumn adventures.

This small town and its surrounding countryside come alive in the fall with seasonal flavors, unique shopping, and unforgettable experiences.

Scenic Drives & Amish Traditions

As you make your way into Harmony, you may notice roadside Amish produce stands overflowing with pumpkins, squash, gourds, baked goods, and handcrafted items. If you’re lucky, you may even glimpse farmers working their fields with horse-drawn equipment—an authentic view of life in the Driftless.

Many Amish farms aren’t right along the main highway, so visitors are encouraged to pick up a map of local Amish farms (available at the Harmony Visitor Center and from many local retailers) and explore the scenic gravel roads. For those who prefer extra guidance, you can also schedule a formal guided Amish tour to help you find the best stops and hidden gems.

Booking a guided tour with Amish Tours of Harmony is a great way to take a closer look and learn more about the Amish community. Local guides will help you find everything from hand-crafted furniture and quilts to delicious jams and preserves—true Amish craftsmanship you won’t find anywhere else.

Fall Festivals & Haunted Fun

Harmony’s fall calendar is brimming with seasonal fun. Fall for Harmony (September 20th) celebrates creativity, flavor, and community spirit, while Haunted Harmony brings spooky excitement to town.

Thrill-seekers should head to the Monster Bash Haunted House, one of Minnesota’s top-rated haunted attractions. Each year brings a brand-new theme, with proceeds supporting local youth in the arts. Check their website to learn more about 2025’s Where’s Alice? theme and check the dates for the haunt.

Shopping & Seasonal Finds

Shopper peruse sidewalk sale offerings during a fall outdoor event.

Harmony offers a shopping experience that blends small-town charm with one-of-a-kind treasures. Whether you’re hunting for Amish-made goods, antiques, or thoughtfully curated gifts, you’ll find plenty of places to browse:

  • Village Schoolhouse & Village Depot Gift Shops – Amish goods, gift items, clothing, and seasonal décor.

  • Bee Balm Boutique – stylish clothing (both boutique and consignment), gifts, antiques, and home décor.

  • Seed & Stone – farm products, locally sourced gifts, gemstones, and thoughtfully curated finds.

  • Tinker & Makes – craft kits, indie brands, and creations from local makers and artists.

  • Gold Grooming – pet-themed décor and gifts for animal lovers.

  • Hammell Equipment – more than tractors! Browse toy tractors and farm-themed items for kids and collectors.

  • Kingsley Mercantile – a true general store offering housewares, décor, gifts, hardware, and one of the area’s best selections of quality children’s toys.

✨ From boutique finds to antique malls you can get lost in, Harmony and its neighbors make it easy to take a piece of the Driftless home with you.

Outdoor Adventures

Cooler weather makes fall an ideal season for biking the Harmony-Preston Valley Trail, hitting the greens for a round of golf at Harmony Golf Club, or exploring the breathtaking Niagara Cave. (Tours run daily through fall—be sure to check their social media for the latest updates on hours and availability.) Visitors to Niagara Cave can also play mini golf on the cave’s beautiful 18 hole course, or mine for gemstones in their popular sluicing gemstone mining attraction.
